Police officers dies in attempt to collect N20

                                                         
An overzealous police officer attached to Orile Division of the Lagos State Police Command, has died from injuries he sustained when he fell off a commercial bus popularly called Danfo, after he jumped on the tail-board of the vehicle along the ever busy Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened in the morning of Wednesday, August 26, at Rainbow Bus stop when the Danfo driver had stopped to drop and pick passengers going towards Mile 2.

The police officer, in bid to 'catch' the erring driver, jumped on the bus as the driver tried to escape apprehension but in the process, hit another vehicle in front and the impact made the officer fall off the bus while a trailer coming behind ran over him, killing him on the spot.

The driver and his conductor as well as the passengers in the vehicle, scampered away abandoning the bus.

A passenger in the bus, Rotimi Baki, narrated the ugly incident:

“The policeman jumped onto the commercial bus while the bus was moving and picking passengers at the bus stop.

All of a sudden, the commercial bus driver, wanting to escape, hit another vehicle and the policeman fell off and a truck coming from behind hit him.”
