Police arrest self proclaimed monarch of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom for instigating burning of B' Divisional police office
Police in Warri, Delta State, have arrested the self proclaimed monarch of Okere-Orhobo Kingdom, Chief Kesiena Okumagba, who was declared wanted last week for allegedly instigating the attempted burning of the Warri ‘B’ Divisional Police Office.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Celestina Kalu who confirmed Okumagba’s arrest, yesterday, said the suspect and his cohorts all in police net would be charged to court this week.
Kalu said, “You know he has been on our radar for (allegedly) instigating youths who invaded the ‘B’ Division in an attempt to forcefully release some of the community youths, who were detained in connection with burgling the house of one Chief Wilson Eboh.
“They then tried to burn down the station. Following Kesiena’s arrest, some persons also came trying to offer N30,000 bribe for his release. Members of that group have also been arrested and all suspects in connection with these related matters would soon be charged to court.”
It will be recalled that the Okere Urhobo Kingdom’s Traditional Council had earlier vowed to take both legal and customary actions against Okumagba for allegedly proclaiming himself Orosuen (King) of the kingdom.
The community speaking through its Regent and Otota (Prime Minister), Chief Eboh expressed anger at the media report of his self crowing, saying he was not by any measure in contention for the community’s kingship.
