For her greed and insatiable desire to reap where she did not sow, a middle-aged woman in Lagos, Philomena Ajih, has lost the sum N550, 000 to some local fraudsters popularly called 'Wash-Wash' after they promised to double the money to an amazing N5 million in return.

According to the woman who came to her senses after she realised she had been taken and went to report the incident at the Igando Police Division, the suspect identified as Moses Okezie, had approached her along the Ikotun-Igando road and hoodwinked her into believing that he could assist her to become richer than she ever imagined, but that she had to provide N550,000 so that he would double it for her.

Seeing the 'opportunity' to get rich and overcome her financial challenges, Ajih fell for the well laid trap, went to her bank and withdrew all the money she had in there and hurriedly took them to the scammer, hoping to get the N5 million in a few days' time.

After she paid the money, she began to wait endlessly for the N5 million Okezie promised her but instead of coming with the good news, the Abia State born Okezie asked her to go and look for more money so that it could be doubled to N10 million, even suggesting that  that she should borrow money from her relations and when she eventually gets the millions, she would refund the borrowed money and keep the rest.

She believed him and went to her brother to borrow N500,000 to add to what she had already given to Okezie and when the brother interrogated her, she initially refused to explain why she needed the money but after much pressure, she told the brother what she needed the money to give Okezie to double it to N10 million for her.

That was when the wiser brother raised the alarm and quickly contacted the police. In order to arrest Okezie, the police told Philomena to play along and ask Okezie to come and collect the at an agreed spot where the police ambushed and arrested him.

At the police station, Okozie confessed that he was a fraudster who specialized in duping gullible victims and had no money to give her.
