The loss of a job has led to a 33-year-old man in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, identified as Gbenga Ogundana, committing suicide.

The already decomposing body of the deceased was discovered almost four days after he killed himself in his rented apartment located at Orisunmbare Street, Cultural Centre, Akure.

It was learnt that his elder brother, Segun, had reported that Ogundana had gone missing and his whereabouts unknown after he tried calling him several times on his cell phone.

Disturbed over the unnatural disappearance of his brother, Segun and some family members went to his residence to find out if anyone had seen him and on arrival at the house, the team discovered that the doors and windows of the apartment were locked from within.

Segun and the others including some neighbours lodged a report at the police station and with the help of some officers, the door was forced open and the decomposing corpse discovered on the bed, with a note on the table informing his family that he had to kill himself over his loss of job.

The body was evacuated and taken to the state's general hospital mortuary by the police detectives for post-mortem examination and it was revealed that he had swallowed some poisonous substance suspected to be poison.

Findings by the suggest that Ogundana had lost his jobs some few weeks earlier and had been depressed before he decided to end it all.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Wole Ogodo, confirmed the incident and said his men had launched an investigation into the incident.
