Boys Brigade urges youths to place service first before material, monetary gains

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Boys Brigade Council of Nigeria has enjoined youths to put service to humanity and the nation first before seeking after material and monetary gains in order to build a better society.

The President of Boys Brigade (BB) Anambra State Council, Mr Ben Osaka, gave the advise while officially opening the Non Commissioned Officers and Officers Basic Training Camp of Boys Brigade (BB) Anambra State Council in Awka, Anambra on Friday.

Osaka noted that the attitude where youths demand money for the slightest service or help they render was not in the best interest of the nation; adding: ``The Boys Brigade has taken up this issue with a view to correct this growing social anomaly’’.

He noted that youths should be the bedrock of volunteerism in the society; noting that other developed countries depend more on their citizens patriotism and volunteerism to advance to higher levels.

``As you have been taught; it must not be heard that you engage in demanding for money or other inducement before you carry out your societal or community duties.

``Boys Brigade is noted for discipline and we must maintain and enforce it to the latter.

``Some of us that were trained in Boys Brigade still maintain this discipline; and today, all those things that many run to get quickly is now ours without much struggle.

``Once, you work whole hearted for humanity, which is God; God in turn will know how to bless you in return in His own way,’’ Osaka, who is also the Co-ordinator of Special Marshals and Partnership of the FRSC, said.

The Boys Brigade boss commended the state officers for their role in bringing up the boys and officers according to the dreams and ideals of the founding father of the orgainisation.

``I urge all parents to ensure that their children and wards join the Boys Brigade so that they would be better children,’’ Osaka noted.

The Secretary of Boys Brigade Anambra State Council, Rev. Canon Jason Onyekagbus, noted that the training camp was basically meant to fill the gap between the boys and officers since most of the officers would be commissioned very soon.

Onyekagbus noted that the training would run from Friday to Monday; while it would involve educational, physical, spiritual and social activities.

Over 500 boys and officers are current participating in the 4-day training camp.
