ASATU partners state government on development

The Anambra State Government has pledged to partner with President General and the traditional Rulers in the 177 communities in Anambra state in the resolution of conflicts in the various communities.

Speaking at the 2015 ASATU award ceremony and N250 Million ASATU cultural Centre Fund Raising Event held in Awka, the state Governor, Willie Obiano promised unflinching support to ASUTU and urged the association to help carry government policy and programs down to the grass roots.

The state government who was represented by the state commissioner for Local Government, Greg Obi, pledged the some of N2 million and provision of 2 hectares of land to ASSATU for the building of ASATU cultural centre, in Awka.

In his address, the ASATU National President,  J.A.P Okolo stated that the Anambra state association of Town Union was founded by some patriotic indigins in 1996, towards galvanizing the self help efforts of all the 177 communities in the state under one association for more rapid development of the state.

Dr Okolo further stated that in his efforts to support the good policy of government, the present ASATU leadership has introduced some innovation in its style of administration that will facilitate good governance.

Such innovation includes the constitution of the communities like agriculture, health, education, conflicts resolution, promotion of Igbo culture, all in addressing the specific problem in the society.

He affirmed that the day's twin events, apart from raising funds for the cultural centre would also honour some eminent Ndi Anambra who had made positive contributions in their careers and helped in projecting the state in the limelight.

He therefore posited that the centre when completed would have a gallery for the promotion of Igbo culture, a library, events hall and some recreational facilities.

The event which attracted a huge turn out of government functionaries, also had awards presented to Chief Pete Edochie, Sir Emeka Offor, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, Chief Sir Tony Okechukwu, Igwe Roland Odegbo, Engr. Ernest Ndukwe, Tim Menakaya and many others.
