Apprehension in Ile-Ife amidst commencement of Oro festival

Residents and indigenes of the ancient city of Ile-Ife say they are apprehensive. They say they now watch when they go out and where they go to.

Though town criers have asked the people of Ile-Ife to go about their normal duties without fear, they say they are not convinced.

This is coming on the heels of commencement of the Oro Festival -This is a traditional practise that is mostly done to prepare the ground for the announcement of the demise of a king in Yoruba land.

A resident  said ‘‘We are still waiting for the chiefs to come clear on the issue. If truly, nothing serious has happened to the monarch, then the chiefs owe residents and the world at large a duty to let us see concrete proof that our royal father is alive as they claimed and will soon return to the country."

You will recall that the Chief Priest came out to debunk claims of the Ooni's death.
