'Why I married my new wife' - Governor explains

The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, who remarried on Friday, May 15, has cleared the air on the
conflicting reports about his new wife’s country of origin and stated reasons he married her.

He said the young lady, Lala Fortes, is from the West African country of Cape Verde.

."I have seen a lot of publications, some saying that she is Philippine, Dutch and several others, but she is from Cape Verde,” the governor told PM News. “And that is part of West Africa. And I hope that will rest the debate of where she is from.”

The former Labour leader, who lost his first wife to cancer about five years ago, expressed joy on marrying his new wife, whom she described as ‘the mother of the house.’

He said, "She is very humble, she appreciates the nature of my job and life that it is one that one comes back home late. Sometimes 3: 00 a.m., she understands my weaknesses, she is more or less the mother of the house, the one that has accepted to be the mother of my children. I am happy that all my children are at home with ‎her and accept her as their mother even though she is not old enough to be their mother. She has accepted to fill that gap.”

The couple’s wedding sparked mix reactions amongst Nigerians on social media yesterday, with many hilarious memes, insinuating that Fortez’s decision to marry Oshiomhole, 63, could have been motivated by money and power.

The wedding was attended by heavyweight politicians, including the President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari, the Vice President-to-be Yemi Osinbajo amongst others.
