There was a twist on Thursday on who endorsed the  transfer of Boko Haram detainees to Anambra prisons as the state governor Willie Obiano opened up.
  According to the governor , the transfer of Boko Haram prisoners to Ekwulobia prisons in Aguata local government area of the state
 was  concluded in 2012 by former President
Goodluck Jonathan and not President Muhammadu Buhari as being speculated.
The governor who spoke through his senior special adviser on political
matters, Mr Chinedu Obidigwe said the decision was taken during a
seminar organized for officers and men of the Nigeria Prison Service
(NPS) in which Ekwulobia and Kuje prisons in Anambra and Abuja capital
territory respectively were chosen as prisons for the Boko Haram
detainees.

Obidigwe said the transfer of Boko Haram suspects woud have been effected  before now but for the 2015 general elections  which certain people advised  would affect the second term ambition of  Jonathan in the South East geopolitical zone.
  Before this revelation the conception was that President Muhammadu Buhari directed the transfer of the sect’s detainees to Anambra state.
 This seeming misconception  had caused traders in the state to take to the street last Saturday, carrying and chanting anti- Buhari songs.

 Some people in the state had also blamed Obiano for what they described as his complacence over the matter by allowing the Federal Government to force the bitter pill down his throat.
Obidigwe contended that a decision made under the nose of past administrations in the state and the country in general should not be
blamed on the current regime .
“In as much as the state government would not want to join issues with
such section of the public, it is important to note that the policy of
transferring Boko Hara inmates to Anambra State had been made since
2012 under the regimes of President Goodluck Jonathan and Mr. Peter Obi, but for the 2015 general election which the then president was contesting for a second term”.
“Be that as it may governor Willie Obiano did not go to sleep over this
matter and has been in contact with President Muhammadu Buhari.
" I also
wish to urge members of the public to remain calm as in no distance
time the state government would surely put the matter to rest”.
