WAEC slams states on debt

                                                          
The West African Examinations Council on Monday said that it could not guarantee the release of the 2015 May/June WASSCE results of candidates in states indebted to it.

In a press statement signed by its national officer, Charles Eguridu, WAEC said candidates from no fewer than 19 states that had yet to settle the council’s registration fees, may be affected.

He explained that 19 states are indebted to the council to the tune of over N4 billion in respect of entry fees for state government-sponsored candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE.

“As I speak to you now, we are cash-strapped as a result of the delay in off-setting the registration fees owed the council by some states,” the statement reads.

He said some states are also still indebted to WAEC in respect of registration fees for the 2014 May/June diet of the same examination.

“We, therefore, want to publicly plead with the affected states to off-set the registration fees of their candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE, as we cannot guarantee releasing their results alongside others in a few weeks’ time,” the statement read.
