Boko Haram terrorists are still controlling territories in Nigeria’s North-East, governors in the region have said.

The sect is said to be still be holding on to five communities in Yobe and Borno, which have been at the heart of the insurgency.

The governors made the disclosure on Thursday, July 23, 2015, after a meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC).

“On Boko Haram issues, governors of Yobe and Borno raised the alarm of five local government areas of the two states still being in possession of the insurgents,” an official document handed to journalists after the meeting read.

The state governors also called for an “increase in military deployment and provision of sophisticated military equipment in those areas” adding that insurgents are still hiding in the Sambisa forest.

The Nigerian military had earlier in the year recorded a string of victories against the sect and claimed back much of the territory in its possession.
