Strange as python licks the blood of the 3 school children crushed to death in Nnokwa as multiple accidents Kill 13 in Anambra

www.odogwublog.com reports exclusively that barely 72 hours after a commercial bus plying the Agulu-Adazi-Nnokwa-Nnobi-Nnewi road smashed 3 school children of same family to death and injured 1 on Wednesday; another ghastly accident last Saturday left 3 people fatally wounded on that same spot.
Strangely, a large python was in the early hours of that Saturday spotted on the accident scene licking the blood of the crushed school children. Although Idemmili people do not kill that specie of snake as it is associated with their deity, angry residents, eyewitnesses told the reporter, killed the sacred creature for licking the blood.
Motorists were said to have tactically avoided the ‘sacred’ creature but residents threw caution to the wind and battered it to death in anger. On the same Saturday and same spot, a vehicle smashed a dog to death in the afternoon. But as the residents of that community are still struggling to recuperate from the shock of losing three innocent school children, another ghastly accident occurred on the same spot that same Saturday at about 4pm, leaving 3 more persons severely wounded while others sustained various degrees of injury.
Commercial motorcyclists who often ply the road told www.odogwublog.com that the Nnokwa junction is now a theatre of terror. They said that so many people have lost their lives on that junction which has quadruple roads. One of them, Mr Mmaduabuchukwu Okwara told our reporter that about 13 persons have lost their lives on that junction in the recent time
“What I’m saying is that that Nnokwa junction is very dangerous. If you look at it very well, the children have successfully crossed the road. That place is just dangerous. We often witness fatal accidents taking place in that vicinity. I’m an okada rider and we see these things often. There is great need for traffic wardens to be stationed there. School children find it very difficult to cross the main road every day and this threatens their lives. For example, around November last year, three persons died in that same spot in a very fatal accident; last time Nnokwa people did their New Yam festival, a commercial bus belonging to the Eastern Mass Transit failed break and killed six persons on that same spot; one man was heading to St. Mary on his private motorcycle, a motor apparently heading to Nnewi from Awka knocked him down and he died instantly on that same spot. Just last Saturday, after the terrible accident that killed 3 innocent school children, another ghastly accident happened on that same spot, leaving three persons wounded. So government should do something about that as a matter of urgency” he lamented.
When www.odogwublog.com visited the residence of Mr Chukwudi Nweke whose three children were crushed to death, and one crippled by a reckless driver last Wednesday, tears were still flowing like a river. The family which hails from Ikpembe in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State but resident in Nnokwa is literally eating a bread of sorrow as sympathisers kept trouping into their home. The children: Ukamaka in Primary 5;Ogochukwu, Primary 2 and Ezinne, Pre-Nursery; (the deceased) and the injured Chimezie, Primary 1 were returning from St. Stephen’s Nursery and Primary School when a bus distributing bread to their retailers, belonging to St. John’s Catholic Church, Nneni skidded off the road and crushed them.
The bereaved mother, Mrs Catherine Nweke who had lost her voice crying, struggled to voice out her last contact with her children.
Hear her: “I had prepared them for school; took proper care of them before they left. But when the horrible incident happened, I was in my shop in the market. I received a call from a relation who told me to come back home. Given the tone of the voice, I started asking questions on the rationale behind the call as I became terribly curious but nothing was revealed to me. I quickly packed my goods and started heading home. But on getting to my house I did not see anybody. My children were gone. They killed three of my four children. I saw the lifeless bodies of my children. Lord! They shattered my world. People were telling me stories. Two of my children died instantly. The remaining two were rushed to the hospital. My third child died in the hospital with drip fix on her. The forth one is still the hospital. My husband later came back from the hospital to inform me of the level of injury the living one has, and afterwards went back to the hospital. That was how I saw it. The ones that died were Ogochukwu, Ukamaka, and Ezinne. According to the report I was given, they had crossed the main road and were about a pole away to branch to our street before they were killed by the reckless driver.”
An eyewitness, Mr Uchenna Michael Nwode who said that the driver ran away, told www.odogwublog.com that “I was around the vicinity when the fatal accident occurred. The children were coming back from school. Even, they were my relation. The eldest child who was leading them was smashed to the electric pole and she died instantly. She was about 16 years. The bus knocked others into the gutter. We found one under the culvert, while their son was found under the vehicle. Along the line, one died in the first hospital she was rushed to; another one died in the second hospital while their son is still alive but his two legs were broken. They said he would undergo operation so that they could set the bones.”
“The bus did not lose break. Its break was still intact. Even, immediately that incident happened, we heard the driver’s salesgirl scolding him; reminding him how she had been telling him to mind the steering wheels and concentrate on the road but he wouldn’t listen. We checked the bus and found out that the break was still in order. May be the accident was as a result of reckless driving; or he was answering phone call. Or maybe he was discussing something with the girl and in the process lost control of both himself and the bus. We can’t really tell what exactly could lead to the fatal accident that nearly wiped somebody’s family. The steering, break and everything were working perfectly” he added.
The bereaved father could not be reached to comment on the matter as he was in the hospital in Enugwu-Ukwu catering for the injured Chimezie but his immediate elder brother, Mr Emmanuel Nweke, told the reporter that the family is writhing in agony. He noted that although the catholic priest whose vehicle killed the children is making concerted effort in the treatment of the injured Chimezie, public and government’s assistance would be needed as the young family has been torn apart by the unfortunate incidence.
When contacted on the telephone, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC) Anambra State, Mr Sunday Michael Ajai said he was not aware of the incidence. He said he would make necessary inquiries in that regard.
