Soldiers, hunters mobilise after Boko Haram attacks Yobe

Boko Haram militants on Thursday night invaded Buni Yadi in Yobe State, a security source told our correspondent on the telephone.

The source, who spoke on Friday, said, “Many residents of Buni Yadi were seen fleeing to Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, earlier this morning. They journeyed all through the night to escape being captured or killed by the insurgents.

Some hunters in state and the military are however said to be planning a massive offensive against the insurgents, who had attacked the town more than four times in the past.

He claimed that the insurgents attacked the town at about 9pm on Thursday and were believed to still be occupying the town.

He added that local hunters in all part of the state had started planning strategies on how to move to Buni Yadi so as to uproot the insurgents from the town.

He said, “It is early in the day yet to know the casualties. We might need to wait till later after the insurgents hopefully would have been uprooted before we start talking about those killed or injured.”

Meanwhile, a resident of Damaturu, Yunusa Ibrahim, told our correspondent on the telephone that a detachment of troops with Armoured Personnel Carriers, headed towards Buni Yadi on Friday.

Ibrahim added that a fighter jet was equally seen flying towards Buni Yadi the town.

The terrorists had in February, 2014, invaded the College of Agriculture in Buni Yadi, where they killed no fewer than 43 students of the college.
