THREAT by some customs' brokers to distrupt activities at the Tincan Island Container Terminal (TICT)
port over allegation of extortion and high level of inefficiency, is being sternly resisted by the combined efforts of the Concerned Accredited Freight Forwarding Associations (CAFFA).
In what appears a coldwar between the threatening customs Agents and members of the CAFFA, they latter have dissociated themselves from any plot to shut down the port, and vowed to resist any attempt by any group to take laws into their hands.
Publicity Secretary of the CAFFA, Dr. Frank Ukor told our correspondent that it was alarming that in this critical period in the history of our great country, a group of Customs brokers would be threatening to disrupt activities at the ports which come next to oil, as the cash cow of the nation.
"We view this threat as barberic, vulger and indeed, constituting both security threat and economic sabotage for a country facing serious security and economic issues.
"It is amazing that this group of “Customs Agents” found it convenient to castigate the TICT alone for offences which are common with other terminal operators.
"As freight forwarders who are also at the receiving end of some of the unwholesome activities of the Terminal operators, it is our belief that any move to draw attention to these anomalies should not single out one or two terminal operators alone, while we pretend that all is well with the other terminal operators.
"Any action to resist these anomalies should not be restricted to only one operator, but should be uniformly addressed", cautioned Dr. Ukor.
He said selective persecution of one Terminal Operator leaving out the others smirks of hypocrisy, double stand and clandestine motive to settle personal scores.
