Obiano Support Group Inaugurated Amidst Confusion

www.odogwublog.com reports that despite efforts by opposition group to forestall the Inauguration of Willie Obiano Support Group, Awka South chapter, yesterday at St Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral field, Awka, the inauguration was later held amidst confusion.
The richly packaged event witnessed low turn-out of members but few, who defiled security threats by another group suspected to be the State Executive Council of the organization made the event memorable.
The Awka South Local Government Coordinator of the group, Hon. Christian Ezenwoke was said to be hospitalized in an undisclosed hospital in the morning of the inauguration, although, his address was read by the Local Government Chief scribe of the Organization, Barr. Kingsley Muolokwu.
Barr. Muolokwu disclosed to our reporter that the State leadership of the organization, led by one Mr. Jude Emecheta invaded their meeting venue few days ago to disrupt their proceedings to ensure the inauguration never held.
“They also put up a counter radio announcement, telling people that the inauguration has been postponed and sent text to others, threatening to arrest any member found at the venue of the event. They did not stop at that but went as far as calling the Bishop that suppose to celebrate mass for us that the programme has been cancelled.
“But I know that they have no power to arrest anybody. I dare them to tell me the section of the law that forbids lawful assembly. They should know that there is nothing like State without local government structure and the best thing for them to do is to copy from us as pace setters” he advised.
But in a swift reaction, a member of the State executive council of the group who pleaded anonymity claimed that the Awka South members were advised to drop the inauguration until the association is inaugurated at the State level but they refused, hence the bickering and controversy.
In his address, the Local government Chairman of the group, Hon. Christian Ezenwoke explained that the idea behind the formation of the group is to have a regular interaction with the governor, Chief Willie Obiano, gather adequate data of all his good works and policies towards developing both the environment and good people of Anambra state.
“This information will then be passed to each ward and will further be broken down into villages and kindred. This will help the governor make better policies and decisions that will affect the lives of the people positively” he said.
The Social Welfare officer, Enekwechi Anthonia, Awka ward three patron, Ozo Nwaobum and the Assistant Social Orientation Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Obuakor in their comments, commended the visionary leadership of Hon. Christain Ezenwoke but regretted his absent in the inauguration he started planning since last year. They prayed for his speedy recovery for the group to start implementation of the lofty ideas in Awka south.
Earlier in the mass that preceded the inauguration, a catholic priest, Rev. Father Alphonsus Obiekezie charged the group to be committed to their vision which he described as good idea that will encourage participatory governance as a key to Nigerian democracy.
