The former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has felicitated with students and pupils of different primary and secondary schools in Anambra State as a way of celebrating his 54th birthday.
Speaking at one of the schools, Holy Spirit Secondary school, Ebenebe, the former governor said he was fulfilled celebrating among young pupils/students, who were the future of the society and needed as much inspiration as possible to make them aim towards greatness in lives.
Obi, who also visited St. Anthony Secondary School, Ikenga and Holy Child Nursery and Primary School, and donated N1 million each to them as part of the birthday, pleaded with those who wanted to support him in any way to donate the money to him to enable him visit schools in remote parts of the state and donate the money to them for continued improvement of their infrastructure.
He said that his target was to cover 50 schools and expressed happiness that he has already got the money to cover 20 schools.
On why he did not celebrate like others by throwing lavish feast, Obi said he had no problem with those that chose to celebrate that way, saying “Everybody has what makes him happy. To some, it is lavish celebrations, where champagne would flow freely. For me, what gives me joy is the realisation that at any point, my actions contributes in the building of the society.” I have targeted to give N1 million each to 50 schools in the state and elsewhere.”
“I have got money for 20. The more I get money to assist these schools, the happier I am.”
While visiting the schools, Obi admonished the students to be of good behaviour and to take their studies seriously since, according to him, “education remains the most portent currency for competition in the world.”
