Nigeria media is ‘watch lion’ – Senator

THE slogan that the Press is a “Watch dog” has been re-christened to the Press is a “Watch Lion”, by the
first timer Senator representing Kaduna state Central Senatorial Zone Two, Shehu Sani.
Senator Shehu Sani who made the acclamation in a chat with members of the media in Kaduna, said that the change became necessary because the Press had played a significant role to ensure that election 2015 was based on the rules and democracy was on track.
“I like to thank the Press as well as commit myself to them as the people who voted us into office. I did not emerge as a Senator because I am a politician, but through media contribution which ensured that things were set rightly”; the human right activist said, emphasising that “you are a watch lion and not a watch dog because you played a role that you should be elevated.
“From 1983 to 1999, the Nigeria media resisted the military rule as you kept the touch light on, even when we were in jail as well as kept the flag flying”; the federal Lawmaker affirmed, noting that “the media has forced people in power to conform to the right leadership as you mobilised, sensitised and conscientised Nigerians”.
Although the Senator fully believes in change, he unequivocally upheld that “it can only be meaningful in the country if it has impact on the people”; assuring that the APC is conscious of the high level of expectation by Nigerians from them and called on those in power to sacrifice in order to revive the economy considering the out-cry of Nigerians on their allowance.
