NIGERIAN Navy in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom State coastal region, has destroyed about 21,000 litres product
suspected to be refined Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Also destroyed were the perpetrators hideout at Ukpenikang with four standard pumping machines and two submersible pumps discovered last week-end.
Briefing journalists at the scene of the operation, the Commander of the NNS-Jubilee, David Adeniran, said the action of the Navy was the confirmation of the total war against oil thieves in the state.
Adeniran said the perpetrators of illegal oil bunkering and the related criminalities within the shorelines and creeks of Ibeno would no longer escape the sledge hammer of the government.
The Naval Commander who spoke of the Navy's capacity and capability in tackling the challenges in the maritime environment said, “the measure of curbing the activities of illegal bunkering operators and other related criminalities is not Navy's job alone.
“We are going to work as usual in conjunction with other security agencies as well as communities in which we operate. We will continue to work together to ensure that their activities are checked”.
He further said, “we have warned the perpetrators on several occasions to desist from illegal bunkering as well as other related criminalities and venture into other productive business”.
