Man who bathed his ex-lover with acid charged to court

If Paul Nwokobia thought he was going go scot free after bathing his ex-girlfriend, Rosemary Nnaife, with acid because she called off the relationship, he must have been dreaming as the long arm of the law has finally caught with him and he has been charged to court for the offence.

He was dragged to the Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates' Court in Lagos State where he has been remanded in prison custody pending when he perfects his bail conditions.

Nwokobia, who claimed to be a factory worker, and resides at No. 17, Okejide Street, Ejigbo, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawfully causing grievous harm and use of dangerous substance.

The prosecutor in the case, Sergeant Maria Dauda, told the court that the accused and others at large committed the offences on June 3 at about 8.30 pm at Lawanson Bus stop, Itire, when they poured the subtance of the lady who is currently in the hospital.

Dauda said Nwokobia's motive was revenge after Nnaife called off their affair because of his unserious and lazy attitude to life.

The accused had pleaded not guilty to the charges and the Magistrate, B. Folarin-Williams, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum but before then, he would be in prison custody while the case has been adjourned to September 23 for trial.
