 A 32-year-old man, Buhari Usman, who allegedly assaulted a council health official, was on Monday
brought before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

Usman, who resides at No. 17, Oduneye St., Iyana -Iyesi in Ota, is also being tried for injuring the official while trying to enforce environmental laws.

The prosecution has slammed a three-count charge of assault, breach of peace and conspiracy on the accused.

According to Sgt. Itaita Ebibomino, the accused with others still at large committed the offences on June 30 at about 2.00 p.m. at Goro Market Area, Atan near Ota in Ogun.

Ebibomino said the accused and others conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace when a team of health officers inspected their apartment over its insanitary state.

He said the accused and others used a sharp object to inflict injury on Mr Emmanuel Ademola, a Senior Health Officer at Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government.

The offences contravened Sections 249, 355 and 516 (d) of the Criminal Code, Revised Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Ruling on the accused’s bail application, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Funke Odubanjo, granted him a bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties in the like sum.

She said one of the sureties must be a civil servant of not below Grade Level 14 with an evidence of gainful employment.

In addition, Odubanjo said the sureties must swear to affidavit of means and provide evidence of tax payment for 2014.

The case was adjourned to July 22 for hearing.
