Jubilation as UNN Law Students Unveil Journal

The Faculty of Law of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, (Enugu Campus) was literally shutdown recently by the excited law students following the unveiling of their journal. The students who trouped out en masse into the faculty auditorium where the event was held sang academic songs of joy.
According to them, the UNN Law Students’ Journal, 2nd in edition, which took them some pound of flesh to prepare, dissected many topical, national issues. They noted that the academic venture was keenly embarked upon as part of measures to fulfilling the institution’s objectives which among others are to promote academic excellence and provide academic solutions to multi-faceted problems rocking the country.
The students who often arrogate ‘lions and lionesses’ to themselves noted that the solutions proffered in the academic journal, if followed to the letter, would go a long way to mitigate the burden of poverty and oppression heaped on the shoulders of most Nigerians due to corruption.
For example, one of the topics entitled: The Nigerian Police Force and Human Right violations: Implication for Nigeria’s Democratic stability by Ezenwaka Macdonald Chijioke x-rayed and proffered solutions to the various human rights violations by the police and how it had severely affected the growth of the nation’s fledgling democracy.
Mr. Emmanuel Onyeabor in his piece entitled: Shall God’s Money Be Taxed, considered extensively the standpoint of the law on whether or not religious institutions should be made to pay tax to the government.
Speaking to odogwublog.com, an editorial board member who doubles as the Deputy-Director of Litigations, Zebra Consult Chambers, UNEC, Echebima Viola said that “we took pains to conduct extensive research before we arrived at this. Our joy is that the entire topic is centred on topical issues of national importance and we are hopeful that applying the solutions therein will go a long way to assuage the many problems of Nigeria.”
The Journal was dedicated to Barr. E.E Egbunonu and Late Professor G.O.S. Amadi who was until his death the Dean, Faculty of Law of the University even as the students and the editorial crew expressed gratitude to Mr Uche Anyadiegwu for sponsoring the journal’s maiden edition.
Present at the event was the Academic Coordinator CLASFON, UNEC, Hon. Justice Ezebo Nosike Chidozie; Principal Partner, Gani Fawehinmi Chambers, UNSBA UNEC, Odoemenam Chidiebere; Chief Editor, Nwora Ike Obiora; Hon. Attorney-General of Law Students Association, UNN, Emmanuel Onyeabor; Chairman, Editorial Board, Azodo Chidera; Deputy-Director of Litigations, Zebra Consult Chambers UNEC.
