www.odogwublog.com reports exclusively that it was a black Wednesday for the family of Nwabufo in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State, as generating set reportedly set the building of one of their own, Mr. John Ogugua Nwabufo, ablaze.
Trouble reportedly started for the family when a son to Mr. Nwabufor carried a lantern to pass through the location of the generator and it immediately caught fire and subsequently touched the entire house.
Mr. Nwabufor, a partial blind man who has been bed-ridden for years, his wife, Ndidiamaka and six children escaped death by the whiskers as they were evacuated through the window.
According to the Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, in the Area, Chief Vincent Obiora Anyakora, the incident occurred in the wee hours when the family members were still asleep.
He said, “the entire family were still asleep when their house caught fire and their neighbours started shouting which made the entire residents to storm the place and rescued them”.
“The entire building had caught fire when the rescuers came and they had to break the window from where their father, mother and six children were rescued.
“If not for God their father who is partially blind and bed-ridden for years now and his entire family would have died. You can see the generator that caused the trouble, it is completely burnt and every property except the entire family”.
Also speaking the senior brother to the blind man who lost his house, Mr. Jacob Nwabufor said, “My brother presently is in my house, he has lost all he has on this earth and cannot start life afresh unless the state government and good spirited individuals and group come to his aid”.
“His wife, Ndidiamaka as custom demands has fled the community until after some days to enable the women clear the ashes”, that is our tradition”, he revealed.
In their various reactions Mrs. Catherine Unegbu and Madam Patience Abadom regretted that the officials of the fire service could not come when they were called.
According to them, “they told us that it was not comfortable for them to come at that odd hour and so the family lost all they had”.
