EFCC Boss Arrests Ex-Jigawa Gov Lamido, 2 Sons

In a move, many believe is a ploy by the Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde to keep his job,
operatives of the anti-graft agency today arrested embattled former governor of Jigawa state, Alhaji Sule Lamido and his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha over alleged N1.3 billion fraud.

In the past six weeks, especially since the exit of President Goodluck Jonathan, the Lamorde-led EFCC has been on the offensive, arresting and interrogating ‎former governors who left office over four years ago. The recent gale of arrests and interrogation, many believe, is a tactic by Lamorde who has been accused of being incompetent and corrupt to stay in office.

‎The former governor and his two sons have been having running battles with the EFCC since November 2013. The raging hide and seek game led to the arrest of the two sons of the former governor in 2013. The former governor who was believed to be the arrow head of ‎the alleged fraud scandal could not be arrested then because of the immunity he enjoyed as governor.

On June 15, 2015, the former governor willingly turned himself in at the Abuja office of EFCC. He was interrogated for several hours by a team of EFCC operatives. He was subsequently released and was told to return at a later date for further interrogation.

Although Lamido had repeatedly denied any wrongdoing or using his office to siphon the resources of the state, the EFCC on the other hand had always maintained that the former governor and his two sons have questions to answer.

In the past four years, most corruption cases have either been swept under the carpet or those charged to court by Lamorde’s predecessors compromised and thrown out of court with the connivance of Lamorde.
