Confusion as Succession crisis looms in NIPOST

As the tenure of the Post Master General, PMG, of the Nigerian Postal Service, NIPOST, Mallam Ibrahim Mori Baba, gradually comes to an end, succession crisis is brewing in the agency.
Mallam Ibrahim Baba’s tenure will elapse next month.
Nigerian Pilot gathered from workers at NIPOST headquarters, Abuja, that the outgoing Post Master General had perfected plots to hand over to one of the Deputy Post Masters General, DPMG, from the North Central zone, against the existing rotational arrangement which favoured the South-South zone as successor to the outgoing PMG.
The plot to jettison the federal character and rotational policy adopted by the postal service since 1985 is what is generating crisis at the top echelon of NIPOST.
Some of the contenders for the position are Deputy Post Master General (Mail Operations) Osadolor Eboigbodin (Edo); DPMG (Special Duties) Richard Balami (Borno), DPMG (Engineering and Technical Services) Arch. Ade Ogun (Kwara).
Others are DPMG (Human Resources Management), Chibiri Ndahi (Borno), acting DPMG (Finance and Investment) Joseph Ariyo (Ekiti) and DPMG (Counter Operations) Emmanuel Emem (Benue).
It was gathered that the South-South region has never occupied the position of post master general since its creation 150 years ago. The postal service was established in 1851.
A breakdown reveals that from 1985 when the zoning arrangement began, the South-South region has been bypassed from occupying the position.
Available records show that from 1985-1989, the post was zoned to the South-East under Thomas Ike; from 1989-1994 it was zoned to the North-West under Mr. Nathaniel Zome; from 1994 to 1995 and 2000, it was zoned to South-West under Mr Bamidele (in acting capacity) and Engr. Taiwo Olukolu; from 2000-2005 it was again zoned to North-West under Alhaji Abubakar Argungu; and from 2006 till date it has been under the North-West zone with Mallam Ibrahim Mori Baba in charge.
A source within NIPOST who pleaded anonymity disclosed that the moves to sideline the only DPMG from the South-South for the position is “causing some apprehension within NIPOST,” noting that the position had been designated to be held by the South-South.
The source added: “Like the election and appointment of Nigeria for the first time in 50 years as the eighth president of the African Development Bank, through the former minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, no officer from the South-South geo-political zone has been appointed Post Master General of NIPOST since its creation by the British colonial government over 150 years ago, in the middle of the 19th century.”
The source further stated that if Eboigbodin is by any means bypassed for the position, it would amount to forgoing “professionalism, experience and exposure and integrity in the emergence of the next post master general, because if you look at the records of all the contenders he is way above them, as he has served in more stations and in more departments than others.”
He noted that Eboigbodin had worked as Senior Assistant Postmaster (Marketing), Area Postal Manager in Oyo, Plateau territories and as head of operations in Anambra, Rivers territories, and as assistant ports operations in Lagos.
It was also gathered that the absence of a substantive Secretary to the Government of the Federation might have emboldened the outgoing Post Master General to contemplate handpicking his own successor.
