Church tasks Buhari, backs subsidy removal

The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to remove subsidy on petroleum products, revive and build new refineries, improve electricity supply and create jobs in the country.

The church also decried non payment of workers’ salaries and pensions by most State Governments, stating that the family depends on wages and incomes of workers and urged the three tiers of government to prioritise salaries and wages in order not to worsen the poverty line and create more social problems in Nigeria.

A communique from the church’s Administrative Headquarters in Aba, Abia state by Rev. Kalu U. Eme, its Director of Information & Public Affairs, after its West Synod’s 20th Regional Synod meeting in Lagos, congratulated Buhari, former President Goodluck Jonathan and Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for success at the polls.

Jointly signed by the newly elected Moderator of the Synod, The Rev. Marvellous Kalu and the Synod Clerk, Rev. Bassey Ayek, the church lamented the worsening insecurity in Nigeria and asked Buhari to seek global coalition to tackle these problems for national growth.
