Buhari, APC and Federal Government must apologize for misleading Nigerians , says Move on Nigeria

Move on Nigeria, a socio-political action group committed to good governance and accountability has issued a statement in which it lashed out at the APC and Federal Government saying they must apologize for misleading Nigerians on the issue of bailout funds for the states.
The statement which was signed by Mr. Clem Aguiyi, National Coordinator of the group, said that in light of the revelations made recently by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Babs Omotowa, that the money they paid to the Buhari led federal government was actually 2014 Corporate Income Tax (CIT) and not dividends as claimed by the Federal Government.
It will be recalled that the APC and the president’s publicist had variously claimed that first that the money was sourced from ECA and then later that it was dividend   all of which were lies. Move on Nigeria insisted that they should apologize to Nigerians for what it called “deliberate falsehood intended to mislead Nigerians into believing that the immediate past government actually left an empty treasury”.
“The government must give the people a reason to trust it especially given that there have been all sorts of lies to cover up government’s inaction since its inauguration almost two months ago. We can live with the hardships this government has visited on us as if that is the ‘thank you’ for voting it into power, but lies, deceit and cover-ups we cannot condone” the statement said.
Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Presidency have been locked down in a war of words over the true source of the $1.2 billion shared amongst the three tiers of government and which also doubles as a bailout for some of the states that were unable to pay salaries for several months. Olisa Metuh, spokesperson for the PDP had claimed that President Buhari was using savings made by the previous administration of Goodluck Jonathan to bailout the states after claiming that the treasury was empty.
In a bid to lay the controversy to rest, the Managing Director of the NLNG, Babs Omotowa, in an interview with reporters, made it categorically clear that the tax they paid to the federal government was for the 2014 year of Assessment and was never a dividend as claimed by the federal government.
