CIVIL
society group have declared that the Amnesty International report was a ploy to
blackmail the
Nigerian military with a view to stampeding President Buhari
Muhammadu to turn against his own military.
This, they reasoned was to jeopardise the war
against Boko Haram.
The president of the group, Ekuk Bassey
Williams, who spoke to Journalists in Abuja during a peaceful demonstration,
described the report of the Amnesty International as vindictive and baseless.
Williams said that the report entitled:
“Stars On Their Shoulders, Blood On Their Hands” lacked basic facts and was at
variance with its independent assessment and findings on the war against terror
in the country.
It would be recalled that Amnesty
International released report indicting some service chiefs and retired service
chiefs for war crime.
“We unequivocally wish to state that the
report had been found to be vindictive, lacking in basic facts and at variance
with our independent assessment,” the leader of the group stated.
On the title of the report, Williams said
that Amnesty International had already found the officers guilty stressing that
it was prejudicial and lacking in objectivity.
According to the civil society group’s
finding: “it was also discovered that the manner in which the insurgents
operate via the forceful recruitment of teenagers and young girls put the
military in the line of danger and unavoidable risk.”
