The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Lagos Council picketed Thisday newspaper onTuesday following the newspaper's management failure to pay its worker's eight months salary arrears.
As early as 8am yesterday, members of the union besieged ThisDay newspapers headquarters in Apapa, occupied the main entrance gate to show solidarity for its members who are working there.
The picketers displayed various placards denouncing non-payment of workers at the establishment.
For well over seven hours, members of the union led by the council's chairman, Mr Deji Elumoye, occupied the place and refused to leave noting that ThisDay management has to respond to their demand or else, they will not leave.
After a few hours at the gate of the company, the publisher of ThisDay Chief Nduka Obaigbena arrived at the premises and sought audience with the executive members of the union where negotiation took place for long time.
As at 6pm, the negotiating team of the union was still with Obaigbena who, it was learnt, agreed to pay three from the nine months worker's salary arrears, an offer that the union rejected.
