Political office holders’ pay review committee begins work

The committee set up by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission for the downward
review of the salaries and allowances of political, public and judicial office holders has started sitting.
Head of Public Relations at RMAFC, Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed, confirmed this in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Monday.
Mohammed also disclosed that the committee would soon call on the members of the public to present memoranda to enable it gauge the thinking of the people on the salaries and allowances of public office holders.
Chairman of RMAFC, Mr. Elias Mbam, had recently inaugurated the committee charged with the responsibility of reviewing the Remuneration Act 2008.
The Remuneration Act of 2008 prescribed the salaries and allowances for political, public and judicial office holders.
Mbam had urged the committee to be conscious of the prevailing economic situation and the need to reduce cost of governance so as to free more funds for development.
More to follow. . .
