Onitsha Catholic Private School Sponsors Eight Students In University

www.odogwublog.com reports that a Mission school, Regina Pacis Model Secondary School, Onitsha
owned by the Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese has sponsored so far eight of its former students to various universities in the country.

The scholarships are to serve as a source of encouragement to brilliant students of the all female college who excel in both academic and moral life.

Apart from the dedication of staff and management of the college in turning out responsible school leavers that are expected to give back to the society in the nearest future, the school also monitors the social life of its students even at their parents’ homes.
“We’ve been able to achieve much both in academic and moral life of our students through the daily recitation of the school’s mission statement which is “Excellence is Our Pride, mediocrity Our Enemy” which was long ago enshrined by the pioneer founding fathers”.
The college Director, Rev Fr Jerome Ezenwelu told our reporter in Onitsha that the teachers go through some crucibles which entail inquiry into their private lives within their neighbourhood, including a strict academic assessment by a body of professionals before they’re employed to work in the school.
According to Fr Ezenwelu, “this is to prevent social deviants from infiltrating into the cherished school system where we hold the academic spiritual and moral life of our students in high esteem”.
“We also maintain a culture of spiritual and moral upbringing as a chapel is located at the centre of the college premises where students can go and commune with the divine at odd hours. As a mission school we must not neglect the moral life of our girls who are still vulnerable to societal influence”.
“As a priest at the helm of affairs I make out time to visit some homes of some of my students. I try to give the students personal attention to find out their strength and weaknesses to know where we can assist to that the students always try to reciprocate by keeping to the school’s mission statement of avoiding any act that could tarnish the image of the school”, he noted.
Apart from gaining a reputation for academic and moral discipline among the students, the school has also secured reputable and charitable organizations that offer scholarships for brilliant and indigent students as their pocket cannot carry the weight of some of its students yearning for scholarships due to its lean financial position.
“I wish the school, Regina Pacis which literally means “Queen of Peace” in Latin could carry the financial burdens of our good and disciplined students. But this is not so. We hope we would one day be able to do that”, Fr. Ezenwelu stated.
