Obiano flags off Golden League Athletics Championship in Rojenny Stadium Oba

www.odogwublog.com reports that Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state insists that the State
Government will continue to create the enabling environment for the citizens to excel in various areas of sports through the provision of sporting facilities and development of mini-stadia across the six sporting zones of the State.

 Governor Obiano announced this weekend at the opening ceremony of the first Golden League Athletics Championship in the South East Nigeria, hosted by the state at the Rojenny Township Stadium Oba.
Obiano at the event commissioned the Olympics Standard Tartan Tracks built at the facility by the State Government. The facility is the property of Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka.

 The Championship which attracted over four hundred athletes from various states of the federation, competing across twenty events, was hosted by the state government under a public private Partnership with the Rojenny Resort.

 While commissioning the tracks, Governor Obiano said the project has given impetus to the realization of the dream of the state to build world-class sports facility that will assist in restoring her glory in field and track events.

 Describing the state's successful hosting of the event, as a clear indication that the country continues to look up to Anambra for the leadership role it plays in sports administration and grooming of talents, Governor Obiano said he is sustaining effort in upgrading existing sports facilities and building new ones in the six sporting zones of Aguata, Awka, Otuocha and Idemili.

 These facilities, he noted will help in training of next generation of Anambra athletes, who will make the nation and the state proud at both international and local competitions.
 The Governor assured that the state will key into the gains of the event to stimulate greater interest in sports and the state and the  South-East, adding that he is also encouraging the development of school sports to establish a healthy balance between the academic work of pupils and students, and their recreational activities.

 Earlier in a welcome address, the State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Chief Tony Nnachetta, who noted that the event marks the first of such national competition hosted in the state since its creation in 1991, commended Governor Obiano for his determination to support the development of the state sports infrastructure and the athletes in the face of competing demands on the state treasury.
 While noting that the Golden League competition harness athletes that will represent the country at the Olympics, Commonwealth games and other international competitions, the youths and sports commissioner noted that the state is at present building the right sports infrastructure and creating strategic platforms that are already taking her to the desired direction for sports excellence.
