Ime Obi Onitsha sympathizes with victims of Onitsha Tanker
Fire
The
attention of the Ime Obi Onitsha (Onitsha Traditional Council) has been drawn
to the unfortunate fire incident which occurred at the Upper Iweka Roundabout,
Onitsha, on Sunday, May 31, 2015 when a tanker loaded with premium motor spirit
(PMS) rammed into a building.
The
Traditional Council expresses shock at the unfortunate incident that resulted
in loss of many lives, injuries and destruction of properties and sends its
profound condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the
incident.
The
Traditional Council also sends its heartfelt wishes to those who suffered
various degrees of burns as a result of the fire and prays for their quick
recovery. It requests all religious denominations and organisations to offer
special services and prayers for the deceased and injured in the coming days
and weeks, and urges corporate bodies, organisations, and
individuals to contribute towards the humanitarian efforts to relieve the
sufferings of the affected.
The
Traditional Council further calls on the authorities to set up a panel to
investigate the incident with a view to ascertaining its immediate and remote
causes and to forestall a future re-occurrence.
