NIGERIA Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG)
has condemned the current spate of
kidnapping and called for a more scientific
and technological approach towards arresting the kidnappers.
A statement from the
union signed by its president, Mr Igwe Achese said that the continuous
kidnappings of innocent Nigerians across the country was worrysome.
The union decried
the spate of kidnappings and called on the government and the appropriate security agencies to be up and
doing to stem the tide.
The union in the
statement listed the recent kidnappings of the Regent of Akungba, a Kogi State
High Court Judge, a Kogi State serving commissioner and a NAN Correspondent in
Imo State.
It said that others
are the Ijaw Youth Council President's junior brother, Eradiri, former
President Good-luck Jonathan's two maternal cousins, a Catholic priest in Ekiti
State and a living Faith Pastor in Calabar as one too many.
The statement
advised the government to work out strategies that would stop the incessant
kidnappings to avoid it being institutionalised adding that the criminal act of
kidnapping was portraying the nation in a bad light in the comity of nations
and tends to scare away foreign investors and called on the Buhari administration to give priority to issue of
unemployment, noting that if able-bodied men were gainfully employed and kept
busy, criminal acts like kidnappings would stop.
