Nigerian international kidnap ring smashed in Philippines

Combined officers of the Philippine National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group and the Bulacan Police
Provincial Office on Tuesday smashed a Nigerian kidnap-for-ransom syndicate believed to be preying on their fellow Nigerians in a series of operations in Plaridel town.
Two Nigerian Students kidnapped in Philippines escaped after seven days in captivity. Both victims arrived in the country on the same day they were kidnapped to enroll in a college in San Fernando, La Union, police added.
The victims later escaped after a major disagreement and fighting among the kidnap gang and reported the kidnapping to local police in Pulilan municipality, family of the victims told elombah.com.
The kidnap was said to orchestrated by one Reverend Nnamdi Royalson Maduabuchi Obiukwu, who offered the students the opportunity to study law in the Philipines, Elombah.com was told.
PNP-AKG director Sr. Supt. Roberto Fajardo said Nigerian nationals Ifeanyi Augustine Chinwueba, Martin Okofor and Austin Chukwueba Agu were arrested for the kidnapping of their fellow Nigerians Osuoha Ikenna Amaefule and Onyedeke Ferdinand Munachiso last June 9.
The official said that the two Africans were abducted shortly after they arrived in the country to enroll in a university in San Fernando City, La Union.
Reports from the AKG showed that last June 11, the Embassy of the Philippines in the United Kingdom received a complaint from Aloysiius Esonau Osuji, a British lawyer based in London, that his nephews were kidnapped upon their arrival in the country via Turkish Airlines on lJune 9..
AKG tracker teams immediately alerted and dispatched to locate the possible whereabouts of the victims.
Osuiji, a London-based lawyer, said that the kidnappers demanded 6 million Nigerian Naira for the two Nigerians safe release. The information prompted the PNP-AKG to launch an operation to locate the possible whereabouts of the victims.
The kidnappers demanded that the money be paid into the account of Yusuf Fatai Temitop, with account number 3086140347, in First Bank, Nigeria.
While the kidnappers are in Philippine Police net, their Nigerian allies are still at large.
Elombah.com was informed in London immediately the kidnap took place after which we followed the developments but kept the matter secret until the boys were freed so as not to hamper police detective work.
Fajardo said that after seven days in captivity, the victims were able to escape from their captors and report the incident to the Pulilan Municipal Police Station in Bulacan. They also fully cooperated with the PNP-AKG in locating the suspects’ hideout and eventually led the PNP-AKG and the Bulacan police under Sr. Supt. Ferdinand Divina to the suspects’ location in Plaridel town, where the three Africans were arrested.
“Our investigators are now conducting an in-depth investigation in coordination with the Interpol,  Bureau of Immigration and the Department of Foreign Affairs  to further study the background of the arrested suspects,” said Fajardo
He added that they are also investigating cases of other foreigners, who kidnapped their fellow nationals immediately after their targets arrived in Manila, although he admitted that most of the victims have refused to report their cases or file complaints against the suspects.
Fajardo said a case of kidnapping-for-ransom under Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code will be filed against the suspects.
