A MIDDLE-AGED man, Anthony Okeke
was arraigned before an Awka Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Magistrate O.E. Maduka, for allegedly taking his cousin, Afaemefuna Okoli to Egbeigwe shrine in Obunofia Ndiagu in Ezeagu LGA of Enugu state.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Emmanuel Nwodo, the
accused person is facing a one-count charge of trial by ordeal. He told the court that the said offence is punishable under section 75 of
Criminal Code Law of Anambra State,
1991.
Inspector Nwodo
further told the court that the accused allegedly committed the said offence on
April 4, 2015, by causing the priest of Egbeigwe shrine to subject the
complainant, Afamefuna Okoli, to trial by ordeal.
The accused person,
however, pleaded not guilty to the charge following which J.I Iguh Esq, his
lawyer moved an application for his bail under Section 73 ACJL.
Magistrate Maduka
granted application for bailing but ordered the accused to provide a reliable
surety and N200,000 in like sum. He
later adjourned the case to
August 10, 2015 for hearing.
