How 25 Young Men were Burnt Alive for Refusing Homosexual Acts with King: Feast of the Uganda Martyrs - A Reflection

www.odogwublog.com brings you this piece on how 25 boys were killed in Uganda for refusing to have
sex with fellow men and a king for that matter ………………………..

A REFLECTION ON THE FEAST OF THE MARTYRS OF UGANDA.

June 3 is the Feast of the Martyrs of Uganda
Who were the Martyrs of Uganda; why a Feast; and what in the world has that got to do with us (non-Ugandans, and non-Christians and Christians)?
Well, for me personally, the Feast of the Uganda Martyrs is my Dioconate Ordination anniversary. Of course, as any Postulant, I had no say on the choice on my ordination date. Bishop Michael B. Curry, the Bishop of my home Diocese of North Carolina picked the Feast. In the Anglican and Catholic tradition, the ordaining bishop chooses the Feast (day) on which he ordains a postulant.  A Seminary joke is that if your bishop chooses a Red Day (Red is the Liturgical Color for Feasts of martyred saints - and on Holy Week and Pentecost) for your ordination, you will have a tough/rough and challenging ministry; and if on a White or Green (Liturgical White Days are for saints who died peacefully, and for some other Feasts of Our Lord), your ministry will be easy. Of course, there is no empirical or theological support for this.
Now, Who were the Martyrs of Uganda, and what really happened on this day in 1886, and who cares?
The short answer is that on June 3, 1886, twenty-five youths/young men who were pages and servants of the Kabaka (king), King Mwanga of Buganda, were burnt alive on the orders of the king. These young able-bodied youths were special servants/pages at the king’s court. More than that, King Mwanga used them for homosexual perversion – and that was actually one of their main uses/services. King Mwanga was a violent ruler and pedophile who forced himself on these young boys and men who served him as pages and attendants.
When these young ones were Christianized, they did not want to continue their life in the king's court, and what they were doing with the king. The King ordered their execution by burning  because they had converted to Christianity and were refusing to be used as sex-objects by King Mwanga.  They willingly preferred death to living a life of luxury and sexual perversion in the king’s court. Thirteen Catholics and eleven Protestants died.
Before this horrible burning alive of these young ones, King Mwanga had ordered and supervised the killing of Bishop James Hannington and his companions on October 29, 1885. James Hannington (born in Sussex in 1847) was the Anglican Bishop of Eastern Equatorial Africa, with his base at the shores of Lake Victoria, and with his companions was making inroads into Uganda. King Mwanga was angered by what he feared as foreign penetration into his territory and the bringing in of a new religion and way of life which were in conflict with his lifestyle and kingly powers and authority over his kingdom.
King Mwanga got them arrested, and after a week of cruel deprivations and sufferings, the bishop and his companions were massacred. Bishop Hannigton’s famous last words to his executioners were: “Go, tell Mwanga I have purchased the road to Uganda with my blood.” After these incidents, were other martyrs of Uganda in the years that followed. Renewed persecution of Christians in the 1970's by the military dictatorship of Idi Amin proved the vitality of the example of these martyrs. Among the thousands of new martyrs, both Anglican and Roman, was Janani Luwum, Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Uganda, whose murder by Idi Amin in 1977 shocked the world. The persecution and execution of Christians in Uganda under Idi Amin will never be forgotten, hopefully. Today, Uganda is about the most Christian nation in Africa.
The  Martyrs of Uganda died in their faith and determination; they rebelled against homosexual sins.

Sadly, over the past couple of decades, the history of this very well known facts/incident is being changed right in our very eyes. Liberal and homosexuality  promoters in the media, academy,  in politics, and worst of all, even in some "churches" are downplaying the homosexuality angle of these horrible deaths/executions. The re-writing of history and the changing of facts are some of the tactics of the promoters of homosexuality, with the active  support of their powerful cohorts and friends in powerful and highest places in the nation and in the world. Their goal is the indoctrination of current and future generations. This is happening everywhere you look. This is happening in the colleges and universities and, of course, in the so-called news-media,  even in documentaries, anywhere and everywhere one turns.

There has always been homosexuality in several places, and even in some African societies, tribe, and ethnicities, but the condemnation and proscription have always been there as well, both in Biblical and ancient cultures and places and at all times.

May the Souls of the those who died in the True Faith and Fidelity find Repose in the Arms of Our Heavenly Father whose ways are beyond our comprehension. AMEN.

Kyrie eleison; Kristi eleison.
