Former Abia Governor Aide, Chief Oye receives power to lead APGA from Chief Victor Umeh after a decade
www.odogwublog.com reports that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) yesterday elected its
national officers for the next four years at its National Convention at Women Development Centre, Awka including Dr Victor Ikechukwu Oye as its National Chairman and Mr Labran Maku as its National Secretary.
This was against a purportedly Jos Plateau state High court injunction restraining APGA from conducting the convention which the officials allegedly said never served them.
Chief Oye is from Amawbia , Awka South local government area of Anambra state, He is the CEO/MD Blaze Advertising Agency Lagos suspected to be the owner of Blaze Fm Obosi. He is former journalist and aide of former governor Orji Uzor Kalu where he worked as a speech writer. He attended University of Lagos where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication before earning his Masters Degree in Mass Communication in the United Kingdom.
On his part, the National Secretary, Mr Lebran Maku is a former Journalist with Champion Newspapers and from Wakama District in Nassarawa Eggon Local Govt Area of Nassarawa State and a former Information minister of state and later super minister for information under President Goodluck Jonathan. He contested Governorship election in Nassarawa under APGA but lost.
Othe officers elected with them in a voice vote are National Publicity Sec – Dr Ifeatu Okoye; National Youth Leader – Chuks Nwoga; National Women Leader – Obiagu Amaka Ezinne among others as supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security officials.
Anambra state Commissioner nominee and speaker of Anambra State House of assembly, Right Hon Chinwe Nwaebili moved a motion for the adoption of the Chief Oye led executive as a replacement of the out gone, with an uproar that signified the acceptance of the new national chairman.
Speaking earlier, Chief Umeh went down memory lane narrating how the party was formed, and all the travails it had undergone in the past, while thanking the members of the party who have remained steadfast, despite attempt by both Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha and immediate past Anambra state Governor, Mr Peter Obi to rock the boat after using it to attain success.
This was against expectations from Abia state APGA members that the former minister for interior, Gen Emmanuel Iheanacho was the favoured candidate of the members of the party. As well Chief Austine Ndigwe and Senator Alphonsus Igbeke expected to emerge key positions did not clinch either.
Barr Peter Ezeobi, the state chairman of the party in Imo State upon the election moved a motion for the dissolution of the Umeh led executive and was seconded by Barr Kayode Alabi.
The police had used tear gas canisters to disperse some delegates who wanted to cause trouble earlier before the convention and arrival of the BOT Chairman , Governor Willie Obiano and Chief Victor Umeh among other national officers of the party.
This June 6, 2015 election ended the era of the APGA national Chairman Chief Victor Umeh battling to recover his mandate from the Tribunal to represent Anambra central senatorial zone in the National Assembly. Umeh rose as Personal Assistant to former chairman of PDP to National Treasurer of APGA before acting as National chairman and later substantive chairman for over a decade.
