www.odogwublog.com reports that Business activities in Ekwulobia were paralyzed yesterday as traders
locked their shops and joined the people of Ekwulobia in Aguata Local Government area of Anambra state to protest the transfer of 47 Boko Haram suspects to the Aguata prison in the area.
As early as 7.30am the people comprising traditional rulers, clergy, traders, young men and women as well as the aged marched on a peaceful protest along major roads and streets.
The chairman of Aguata Local government, Mr. Tony Umeoji said the transfer of the Boko Haram prisoners to the place was politically motivated and an attempt to interrupt the development of the South East from Anambra State.
His words: “I must tell you that this development will chase away intending investors to Anambra State thereby setting back the wheel of progress of the state”
‘It is a situation that calls for concern because of the apprehension and restiveness among the people of Ekwulobia. The people are scared and there is a general sense of insecurity”.
‘The Ekwulobia prison has a minimum capacity and facility for such high profile in mates. The prison is so bedded and there are already 133 in mates and you are adding another 43 in mates of the Boko Haram prisoners. That is too much”, he said.
A lawmaker representing Aguata II Constituency, Mr. Ikem Uzoezie appealed to the authorities concerned and President Muhammadu Buhari to as a matter of urgency relocate the Boko Haram in mates to a prison with maximum capacity and facility.
“The development calls for concern because the relative peace we have been enjoying has been interrupted.
He said the state House of Assembly when it reconvenes would deliberate on the matter.
www.odogwublog.com was worried when some armchair critics rather than investigate the issue raised by www.odogwublog.com resorted to calling the CEO names when his blog exclusively reported the closure of Markets and later the arrival of 47 Boko Haram suspects. The question is if it was hoarse and never happened why the protest by Ekwulobia traders and community? Why the reaction by the Local government Chairman and House member?
