Emergence of Senator Ike Ekweremadu as the Deputy Senate President has been described as the best
thing that has happened to the South East people.
Speaking in Abuja,
former House of Representatives member, representing Onitsha North and South
constituency, Hon. Gozie Agbakoba said that Igbos would not be missed in the
scheme of things in the country.
Hon. Agbakoba also
described Senator Ekweremadu as an experienced person in the business of
law-making adding that his experience as Deputy Senate President for some years
would help the current Senate President stabilize very well in his duty.
He advised Senators
and House of Representatives members at the National Assembly from the south
east zone to always make laws that will benefit their people.
Agbakoba, who was one
time Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) old Anambra State appealed
to law-makers at all levels of government to always work harmoniously with the
executive arm of government towards upliftment of the lots of people,
particularly, the down-trodden in the society.
“There is every need
for law-makers to think of people they represent; there is every need for them
to think of their constituency and need to carry their constituents along with
what they do in the lower and upper chambers of the parliament”, he noted.
He called on
Senators and House of Representatives members to put aside the leadership
tussle and come together as one united, indivisible body to work for good of
the people of the nation.
“Yes, elections are
over and I urge the 8th Assembly parliamentarians to work like a family; make
laws that everyone will benefit irrespective of party leaning, ethnicism,
religion and age”, he declared.
