Court grants man N30, 000 bail over alleged theft of tricycle

Bus Stop in Amukoko area of Apapa, Lagos.An Apapa Magistrates' Court on Tuesday in Lagos granted a N30,000 bail to Jamiu Akintunde, a 30-year-old man, who allegedly stole a tricycle valued at N450,000.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, who gave the ruling, also granted the accused one surety in like sum.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Akintunde, resides at Ijora-Badia area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
According to the prosecutor, ASP Soji Ojaokomo, the accused committed the offences on June 1 at Pako Bus Stop in Amukoko area of Apapa, Lagos.
Ojaokomo said the accused conspired with others still at large and stole a tricycle with registration no. AGL 687 QC valued at N450, 000 property of Akeem Olabisi.
"The accused was caught by other tricycle operators at the park, who saw him while he was stealing it," the prosecutor said.
Ojaokomo noted that the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. The accused, however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 409 provides two years imprisonment for conspiracy.
Further hearing in the case has been fixed for July 15
