Some secondary schools in Anambra state have displayed their talents at the Development of Innovation,
Invention and Capacity building exercise.
The exercise which took place in all the six educational zones in the state targeted at popularizing and promoting science and Technology in the secondary school level.
Speaking during the event, Anambra state Commissioner for Science, Technology and Mineral Resources, Chinedu Emeka noted that the event is meant to encourage students to develop their endowed talents in innovations, inventions and intellectual capabilities.
Dr Emeka who explained that the grand finale programme featured students who took first to third positions in their zones and maintained that they will represent the state at the national level in due course and that the programme would equally be extended to primary school level.
The commissioner thanked Governor Willie Obiano for his support and unrelenting drive to make Anambra state science and technology driven.
Contributing, Assistant Director in the Ministry, Helen Agbogu said that the event is an opportunity to build the intellectual abilities of students at the secondary school level explained that the ministry provides enabling environment for students to showcase their ingenuity and divine ability in science and reward participants with cash prizes.
Mrs Agbogu noted that the exercise is to encourage the study of science and technology in secondary schools and stressed that through this programme, capacity of students would be built to become innovators and future employers of labour and encourage all the participants not to relent in their effort to make the state proud.
One of the students who participated in the exercise, Somto Okonkwo a student of Okongwu Memorial Grammar school, Nnewi who produced a functional RC Coble hericopter and a hummer jeep expressed gratitude to God for the grace to carry out the enormous task explained that the project which he started when he was in Jss3 was not an easy one but it requires everyday practice to improve and upgrade latest ideas.
Master Okonkwo who said that he was motivated and inspired to construct an aircraft due to lack of affordable aeronautic school in Nigeria where students learn how to produce aircraft and believed that he will transfer the ingenuity to his fellow students and called on state government to provide sponsorship to improve on his heart desired project.
