An Insight on the new Hezekiah University in Imo State

General Mission

The general mission of Hezekiah University as a private university is to make it a citadel of academic excellence by providing internationally acceptable high standard of education, seasoned with good morals, which will address such issues as good governance, poverty reduction, affordable shelter, mass transit, food security, good health and peaceful co-existence of Nigerians.

Philosophy

The Hezekiah University (UNIHEZ) is an interdisciplinary, trans-cultural, national and international oriented private institution, which is founded on the philosophy that “excellence in theoretical and practical knowledge, seasoned with good morals”, is what humanity needs to survive. It is dedicated to the study and promotion of Natural and Applied Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Law, Education, Management-and-Social Sciences, Environmental Sciences, etc. for the production of well educated and well equipped professionals and graduates, seasoned with good morals, who can meet the challenges of urbanization, industrialization and human development, since we live in a society in which people struggle against natural and man-made forces. Such knowledge, therefore, should be propagated and disseminated to individual members of the society (great or small, rich or poor, urban or rural) without hindrance, discrimination, segregation or restriction.

Specific Mission

Through its well-structured academic and research programmes, the university’s specific goals include:

• the preparation of students empowered by their qualitative education to solve practical problems confronting them and the Nigerian society;
• the production of graduates who will use the knowledge acquired to lift the society off its problems in science, technology, the utilization of human and material resources, and in the development of culture and environment;
• the absorption, education and empowerment of the large pool of secondary school graduates roaming our streets today helplessly;
• the development of the rural area where the university is located;
• the provision of high standard of education which is constructive and creative, through strengthening liberal arts and science education, creating an educational system in the interdisciplinary fields, and actively expanding functional education.
