Women set to Fight Corruption In Nigeria

The International Federation of Women Lawyers an umbrella organisation for female legal practitioners has
drawn the attention of the public to the fact that it is only women that can fight corruption to a standstill in Nigeria .

For this reason the association vehemently advocated for the implementation of the 35% affirmative action to enable women occupy more leadership positions so as to win the war against corruption and graft in high and low places in the country .

The position of the organisation was made known through the secretary of the Anambra State chapter of International Federation of Women Lawyers Barr.Helen Obiageli Obi during an interview with journalists in Awka . Barr. Obi emphasized that the role of women in combating corrupt practices in Nigeria can not be underestimated .

She stated that it was of paramount importance that the in-coming federal government considered the implementation of the affirmative action so as to place women at vantage position in nationa affairs . According to her , one of the reasons why women should occupy leadership positions in the country was because women  have come of age education wise and their natural proclivity in handling public affairs can not be over-emphasized .

Barr.Obi who is a family law expert as well as lecturer at the faculty of law Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka  , said that irrespective of the fact that women play pivotal role in nation building , African socio-cultural setting tends to preclude  the female folks from realising their potentials as change agents in the society  stressing that it is time women were given more positions of responsibility to enable them rid the country off its canker worm called corruption .

Meanwhile president of the National Council of Women Societies Anambra State Chapter Mrs.Oby Obodozie called on government at all levels to create more job opportunities for the teaming population of unemployed youths in the country as panacea to combat crime and criminality . While urging the Obiano administration to involve more women in the government of the day .
