Rivers State Governor-elect, Nyesom Wike, has denied allegation that he sponsored the serial killings
witnessed in the state during the general elections, to achieve his governorship ambition.
Governor Chibuike Amaechi, had told his audience at his 50th birthday anniversary lecture, held at the Obi Wali International Conference Centre, Port Harcourt on Tuesday that Wike was responsible for the killings that took place in the state to achieve his political ambition.
He alleged that the governor-elect used one of the former militant leaders, Ateke Tom, to carry out the killings.
Amaechi said the report of the panel of enquiry set up to look into the killings was heart breaking.
“If you see the report of the panel of enquiry, you will weep for Rivers State,” he said.
He cited an instance, where one of the APC supporters was killed, his private parts cut off, while his head was decapitated and hanged on a tree.
Amaechi also accused Wike of sponsoring some people to go to court, to obtain a court order to stop the panel from carrying out its assignment.
The governor, who said he had never killed anybody and would not do so, wondered why Wike would sponsor hoodlums to kill political opponents because of his political ambition.
“I have never killed anybody and I can never kill for my political ambition,” he said.
But in a swift reaction, the Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Campaign Organisation in Rivers State, Emma Okah, said Wike never killed or conspired with any person to kill people, either now or in the past.
Okah, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday, said: “In all his political pursuits, killing of anybody has never and will never form part of his strategy to win any election.
“People no longer take Amaechi serious. Wike did not need to kill anybody to win the 2015 general elections in the state, why has Amaechi, who is the chief security officer of the state kept quiet or refused to press criminal charges against him, until Wike is about to be sworn in as governor of Rivers State?”
According to him, Wike had no immunity and wondered why the governor had failed to prosecute him or anybody he accused of such a heinous crime.
