Dr Orji Uzor Kalu yesterday described the Katsina State Governor, Dr Ibrahim Shema as the perfect choice for the maiden edition of The Sun Outstanding Performance Exit Award.
Kalu described Shema as a shining example of a man committed to the service of his people, adding that he had to be personally present to witness the historic event. “Governor Shema has served his people, and served them well. That is why I am here personally today, apart from also being a Katsina title holder,” he said.
The former Abia State governor further disclosed that his close relationship with Katsina State dates back to the days of the former governor and ex president, the late Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
“We were not only governors at the same time, we were also close friends. I knew his family and those who served with him in government. Our Awardee today, was Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in that government, and we became friends. He went ahead to be deputy chairman of PDP in the North, and later governor of Katsina State,” Kalu further explained.
Kalu, who is the Dan Maiyakin Katsina described The Sun awards as the most prestigious in the country, especially as it attracts no financial cost on the recipient, adding jocularly, “I wish we had some good money to also give Governor Shema. I would have loved it. But I know he would personally appreciate the award being given to him more than money.” He urged other governors to emulate the sterling leadership skills and performance of the Katsina State governor so that they would be the winner of the next edition of the next award.
