TRCN Inducts 784 Graduands into Teaching Profession

www.odogwublog.com reports that the Registrar and Chief executive of Teachers Registration Council of
Nigeria (TRCN) Professor Addison Mark Wokocha has charged fresh graduating teachers of Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze to take their induction into the council with the highest level of seriousness and commitment to professionalism.
Professor Wokocha who gave the charge at the maiden registration and induction ceremony for graduands of Masters, PDE, 1st Degree and NCE Programmes of the institution said the induction was in honour of the clarion call for the professionalization of teaching in Nigeria.
While commending the inductees, Wokocha who was represented by Alhaji Ibrahim Romi disclosed that the induction during graduation was part of the measures put in place to check quackery in the teaching profession.
He said TRCN directed its vision to regulate teacher education, training and practice at all levels of education system in order to match teachers’ quality, discipline, professionalism reward and dignity with international standards.

He said the council was out to achieve that by promoting excellence in education through effective registration, certification and licensing of teachers, and promoting professionalism through accreditation, monitoring and supervision of teacher education programmes.
According to him, the council, as a regulatory agency for the teaching profession, is empowered by the Act to mount, monitor and supervise Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programmes.  Those who fail to be inducted might have to write Professional Qualifying Examinations.
He appealed to the inductees to hold the profession in high esteem and described teaching as the father of all professions.
In his address, Provost of the College, Professor Josephat Ogbuagu urged the graduates being inducted as full-fledged teachers to take advantage of the opportunity that has exempted them from the rigours of the processes of registration.
Prof Ogbuagu’s words: “I want you to count yourself fortunate to have this privilege of being inducted as full-fledged professional teachers by the TRCN. Therefore, the College in affiliation with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has produced Degree graduates as well as NCE and PDE with the latest contents that meet general and specialist pedagogical requirements for professional registration and induction of teachers "
He disclosed that the College has never been left out in the national educational drive towards professionalism "that is ‎why it started with Teacher Technical Certificate (TTC) which was in vogue at the inception of the College. However, with the commencement of the PDE, TRCN has considered all other previously accepted programmes which had never been reviewed for more than ten years now automatically closed down. This is particularly true of Technical Teachers' Certificate and other related programmes which pre-dated PDE"
He pointed out the need for those who haven't got their TRCN certificate as Teachers to do so in their own interest .
His words: ‎"TRCN has provided a rich comprehensive professional standard for Nigerian teachers in terms of knowledge, skills, attitudes, values and conduct "
Continuing, Ogbuagu urged the inductees to be excellent teachers that can help catch the young and future scientists, Doctors, Entrepreneurs, Engineers at the basic level of education, "you should do this by showing good ‎examples and being good Ambassadors of the College " he advised.
In attendance at the ceremony were the Dean, School of Education, Dr (Mrs) C.N. Ibekwe, TRCN Desk Officer/Director PDE, Dr. Unigwe Sixtus and other top management staff of the institution.
