TACKLE INFRASTRUCTURE DEFICIT IN NIGERIA –GROUP TASKS BUHARI

Defence for Democracy Justice and Good Governance (DDJGG) has stressed the need for the
president-elect General Mohammadu Buhari to seriously address the ugly infrastructural deficit in Nigeria.
Addressing newsmen in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital, the national publicity secretary of the group Mr. John Ikeli said that giving priority attention to the infrastructure deficit by the incoming administration would be a good step towards enhancing the performance of the nation’s economy.
He pointed out that for the nation to muster the expected productive capacity and play a leading role in the African economic order, the great challenge of enormous infrastructure deficit must be accorded priority attention amongst other economic developmental objectives by the Buhari’s administration.
He expressed worry that the productivity of the country’s firms have gone down to as low as 38 percent the reason he attributed to the huge infrastructure deficit adding that for the nation to achieve the structure and attain the appreciable level of transformation, the incoming administration should as a matter of importance and urgency overhaul the infrastructure challenge confronting the nation.
Ikeli who is also a media practitioner urged General Buhari to complete the construction of Onitsha-Enugu express way and the second Niger bridge which he said had been the projects of politics by the past and present administration advising the President-elect to accommodate good ideas from divergent individuals and development partners on how to tackle the infrastructure problem before it could completely cripple the economy of the country.
