Students in trouble as FRSC to establish road safety club in all schools in Anambra in 4 years

www.odogwublog.com reports that unless it is checked the influx of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) into schools may result to unwanted pregnancy.

The fear stemmed from reports yesterday that  the corps have plans to establish road safety club in all schools in Anambra within the next four years. Let it be affairs of the FRSC officially known by the corps and not some under any guise to wreck havoc in schools ...........

The Co-ordinator of FRSC Special Marshals and Partnership in Anambra, Mr Ben Osaka, made this known when he led a FRSC delegation to some schools in Onitsha to sensitization them on road safety and need to have FRSC Safety Club.

The schools’ campaign was part of activities marking this year’s United Nations (UN) World Road Safety Week, which was themed: ``Children and Road Safety’’.

Osaka noted that children were critical stakeholders in the march to have a safe road since most of them take roads to schools, worship places and while they run errands.

He also noted that when accident happen it would not isolate a child in the vehicle involved rather most times the child or children in the vehicle might be the worst hit in the incident.

``FRSC over the years had been looking for avenue to penetrate homes, public gathering and places; and the new move of catching them young and involving children actively through FRSC Road Safety Clubs would definite yield so much fruit within few years.
``Again, due to these children are dependent on their parents and they bear the brunt when accident happen to their parents; it become necessary that they should be in the vanguard of reminding their parents politely and with love about issue of safety on the road.

``With the club, they would learn how be conscious and careful where using the road at anytime and anywhere they find themselves,’’ he said.

Earlier, while addressing pupils of Royal Ambassadors Foundation Schools, GRA, Onitsha, the FRSC Unit Commander in Onitsha, Mr Anthony Metta, urged the pupils to speak out polite to their parents or any driver speeding or not putting on seat belt.

``Also make sure that anybody under the age of 12 and below seats at the back of the vehicle even if it is your school bus or commercial bus.

``While during the weekend, you go out with your daddy for social occasion like wedding, meetings and traditional function remind him that he must not drink before driving but he should reserve the drinks and take it after you have got home,’’ he said.

The FRSC delegation visited four schools and got their intention and support for road safety club through sign of the UN school’s commitment to road safety.

The highlight of activities in each school visited were distribution of instructional banner with road safety signs and symbols as well as distribution of calendars with FRSC vision and mission.

It would be recalled that the UN World Road Safety Week commenced on Monday, May 4 and would end on Sunday, May 10.
