Prof Ahaneku shines as Unizik harvests awards from Global competition, inter universities competition: as Prof Osita Okagbue donates to Unizik
www.odogwublog.com reports that the Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka Prof Joseph Ahaneku is very happy his institution is
doing well especially with the latest laurels hauled from various national and international competitions.
In this regards, a final year student of Electronic and Computer Engineering Department, Igili Onyedikachukwu has excelled in the 2014 TECH-I Global Competition. This success has qualified him to participate on an international level at the Kingdom of Morocco.
The TECH-I Competition is an annual Competition organized by the United States Department of States to encourage Technology based entrepreneurship worldwide.
This is coming as Gerald Maduabuchi, a final year student of the Department of Music, NnamdiAzikiwe University has received a Music Excellence Award in a Musical Competition organized by Christopher Kolade Foundation.
The competition which was held in Lagos, Nigeria had representatives of students from the six geopolitical Zones of the country.
Receiving the Head of Department, Rev. Sr. Prof. Cordis-MariaeAchikeh came with a Lecturer Dr. EbeleOjukwu to present the award winner. The Vice Chancellor, Prof Joseph Ahaneku, FAS congratulated the awardee for his excellent performance and for making the University proud. He also congratulated members of the Department and prayed God to give them the grace to continue to excel.
Gerald Maduabuchi played the local Igbo Oja at the Competition and emerged the only winner from the South East, the other four awardees are from the South West. They were given cash prize of N250, 000 (Two hundred and fifty thousand Naira) each.
As well, UNIZIK students’ Taekwondo team attended the First Collegiate Taekwondo Championship (COTACH) at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ife from 29th of April to 3rd of May, 2015.
The Taekwondo Championship was well attended by 28 (twenty-eight) universities. Out of this lot only 20 actively contested as 8 were either disqualified, had no requisite and compulsory equipment and could not purchase on the spot or some were on observer status. Others could not meet the weight and accreditation requirements.

As informed by the Sports Director, Mr. AmechiMakasi, it was a very rewarding experience as both the students’ athletes and accompanying officials had the practical opportunity of identifying the strength and weaknesses of the athletes with a view to correcting the weaknesses at home during trainings.
Meanwhile, Prof. Osita Okagbue, an indigene of Anambra state and a prominent Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies based in Goldsmiths, University of London, United Kingdom, has donated a package of theatre books to the department of Theatre Arts.
The books according to him will aid research work, teaching and learning in Theatre Studies as well as advancement of academic programmes in the Theatre Arts Department.
