Population census preliminary starts in Anambra for 100----- NPC

www.odogwublog.com reports that the National Population Commission (NPC) has  said that the
education survey which it was conducting across the country would provide informed data infrastructure needed for effective education planning

Prof Chika Moore, Federal Commissioner in the state made the call while briefing newsmen in Awka .
Moore urged  traditional Rulers and community leaders in Anambra to facilitate the task of interviewers who are in the state to conduct the National Education Data Survey (NEDS).

He said the exercise would be done  in 13 council areas and 23 clusters in the state and would last for 100 days in Anambra.

Moore who is the chairman of the ICT unit of commission in Abuja, said the survey which come up every five years would generate data that will enhance evidence based information for nationwide education planning.

He said the selected areas were strategically chosen and enough hands had been mobilised to cover them with logistics.

He regretted that some communities hindered successful execution of such exercises, pointing out that adequate information were vital in modern day planning of nations.

The mathematician said education in Anambra though better than what was obtained in some other states was still unsatisfactory as some factors such as business and funding affected it negatively.

He said the population targeted for the survey would be children within the range of 4-16 years on issues including enrolment, dropout, and funding problems.

The commissioner reminded the field interviewers of the ethics of surveys which included not to try to influence the outcome of the data obtained as the questions had been structurally simple and language friendly.

Mr Joachim Ulasi , Director of the NPC in Anambra who is leading the team of interviewers  said there had been training and retaining of personnel and promised to do a good job in the data gathering exercise.
